"I was wondering if you have any suggestions on getting him to lunge outside the round pen and to standstill"

Dear Keith...

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

I purchased a horse about 3 weeks ago. He seems too be a very sweet boy. I am having a few problems though. He lunges in a round pin just fine, but out of it he has no idea what he is supposed to do. He looks confused. His ground manners are wonderful. I would like to get him to lunge outside the pin. Also he dances when you try to mount to ride. Even when someone holds him he won't let you put your foot in the stirrup. When you do get on him he bucks for a while. The man that sold him to me told me to lunge him 20 minuted before riding. But i do not have a round pin as of yet. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on getting him to lunge outside the roundpin and to standstill, or even how to ride without lungeing him first? He is a 7 year old Appaloosa gelding. If you would please email me back I would highly appreciate that. Thank you Nancy J
