Dear Keith...

Hi,
Can you tell me where I can find a website about what to do with a horse that bucks?
We have a 4 year old quarterhorse who is quiet, but since we bought him in the last two months will unexpectedly buck. I think it has to do with his cinch and we keep it back as far as we can on him but yesterday he spooked, and then bucked my husband off breaking his clavicle. There are no training tips on this that are easy to find, can you please help send me in the right direction? Thanks. Gerri |

Hi, Gerri, thanks for writing
You may want to look through the articles I’ve posted so far on my site, horsemanship101.com/Articles. I put up new articles about once per month. If you’ve signed up for the free newsletter I write with John’s son Josh, you’ll automatically receive it (plus word when we bring a clinic near you). (Most pages on my site have a quick form you can fill out to start your subscription if you haven’t yet signed up.)
If you’re looking for a book or video, I’ve checked the list supplied to us by John, and you can find further info in the following books: his Ground Control Manual, his riding manual, Help Me Help My Horse, I Bought This Horse But I’m Not Sure Why, Jody Wants To Know, On The Trail, Bedtime Reading For The Horse Owner. Videos covering bucking are: Best Start For the Unbroke Horse. The simplest way to find these is by starting on this page of my site: horsemanship101.com/Catalog.
You may also consider coming to one of our clinics. You can bring the horse to ride, observe the other riders or simply attend our free demo (we typically have) on the preceding Friday night. Regardless of when you visit, you can ask tons of questions. A list of our upcoming clinics can be found here: horsemanship101.com/John-Lyons-Trainer-Clinics/Where-and-When.html.
And finally, you may try finding a trainer near you. A list of horse trainers, state-by-state, can be found by scrolling waaaay to the bottom right of this page: horsemanship101.com/John-Lyons-Trainer-Links/Horsemanship-Resources.html. That list will lead you to trainers certified by John, Pat Parelli and Richard Shrake.
Good luck – and we hope to see you when we come to town
Keith
