Dear Keith...

Hi Keith , first I'd like to tell you how much I love these newsletters -I wish they were available through the mail as I am not able to print them off with this antique computer ! I have learned a lot from them .I used to have horses about 30 years ago - then life took a different road so I was horseless for a lot of wasted years . Last year my friend & sister accompanied me for a Rocky Mountain horse riding adventure in the Alberta Rockies . It was magnificent and to view the mountains from the peaks of the Great Divide on horseback was breathtaking . Long story short -I bought that mare that took me to heights no man ever has (LOL) and had her shipped back to Ontario (quite a souvineer). She is a 14 yr old bay mare, 15-2 hh. I just love her -her name is Lexus . Now that she thinks she is a flatlander & in retirement she has become quite a pain in the butt to catch -I get close -she turns her butt to me & moves on . After about 5 or 10 minutes of making a fool of me she gives in . My friend says its because she is being dissrespectfull toward me & I was wondering how to fix that . She is a great trail horse , needless to say ,as long as I can catch her first . Thankfully she is not in a huge field or I may never get to ride her . I have also bought a younger Quarter horse mare for my grandaughter . She is avery loving , gentle easy to catch mare but when I cinch her up she dances around & looks to biting -your article on biting should help that although my friend says again , that she is being dissrespectfull toward me (again) and that is because I am not showing enough dominence -Her idea is to smack the poop out of them when they missbehave to teach that respect and I just can't seem to resort to that especially on a normally loving horse . Her horse is very well behaved but spends most of the time with his ears pinned back anticipating a wallop upside the head . Sorry this letter got so long , I know you are probably very busy but can you give me a tip or two for my girls and me . Thanks Keith.
PS I have John Lyons Trail riding video -what a great man !
Sincerely , Cathy S |
