"I just don't want the "old man" to keep getting tossed"

Dear Keith...

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Good Morning, I have a training question. My husband bought a very nice 5 yr. old paint mare as this friend was going to run her through a sale barn because she bucks. She had been "rough broke" showing scars on her mouth and scared to death of people. This mare did not crow hop, I mean mouth open, screaming, rodeo stock! Dick (husband) bought her, got her over human fear and we love on her, groom her, etc. He even penned on her several times, doing great! Then at the last penning, she tossed him off as he got on. She has done this twice since then. So we went back and handled her more, etc. Nice horse, gentle, attentive now very trusting. This bucking happens when you get on. Any suggestions for us. Dick is 60 years old and not 18 anymore, which I keep reminding him. Due to the fact it has been around 7 degrees here and we have no indoor, she has not been ridden in awhile again. But she is no longer skittish around us, dragging a sled around her causes no fear, becoming super gentle and loving. I just don't want the "old man" to keep getting tossed. Thank you, Carol
