Dear Keith...

My daughter, who is a beginner, has gotten bucked off the last two horses she has ridden. When someone else rides them they are fine, is it her inexperience or ...?
Someone told her that the horses have got her number and will misbehave cuz she is inexperienced. First time horse spooked cuz motorcycle went by, second time she was trotting and turning him into straight stretch and down his head went and off she went. I want to know if she possibly did something wrong like gave him too many cues that were contradictory and also what she do next time to 'ride out' the buck? She is getting a little bummed. Thanks for your help...and yes, i did read the one about the Norwegian fjord horse but wasn't sure exactly how to do what you said. |

Suggested Article: "Ready for Your Next Spook?"
"It's not a matter of "if" your horse spooks, it's "when." It's not a matter of how broke your horse is. Sooner or later it will see something that makes it spook. You can't control your environment so you can't blame your environment. If...

Suggested Article: "Good Now Bad Later"
Every time you teach an exercise, your horse will go through the same learning cycle. He'll go from "Bad" to "Good" to "Worse" to "Not So Bad" to "Learned." That's the typical cycle: Bad. Good. Worse. Not so bad. Learned.
You know...
